In 1711, a law was passed to create a market for the selling and renting of enslaved African bodies located on what is now Pearl and Wall Street. Less than six months later, the Black rebellion of 1712 took place in the same location where Occupy Wall Street encamped for months to protest a system that privileges the few over the many in 2011. This is nearly a 300-year cycle of repeated history of protest over an economic and social system older than our country. My work is a creative process to erase the erasure of the Black experience in New York. Art gives our imagination room to have vision vs. being limited by what is literally in front of us.
