The “ROBES B/W” quilt pattern juxtaposes stylized robes alternating in either black or white that represent those worn by American judges and those historically worn by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The robes are linked in an inextricable, Escher-like pattern, with the silhouettes of the white robes forming those of the black robes and vice versa. Although represented by the same shape, the colors of the robes conjure opposing and jarringly conflicting ideologies in our collective consciousness.
